Imagine it’s 2:45 in the morning and you’ve received a notification from your Fire Alarm Monitoring Centre, that the fire alarm has gone off at your premises. But here’s the catch: all you know is that the alarm went off. You don’t know where in your building it happened, what device triggered it, or if there are more alarms blaring. Basically, you’re left in the dark until you physically go there.

Now, you’re scrambling to get to work, wondering why, in this day and age, you’re still dealing with this lack of information.

But fear not – Blazequel got the fix!

Just like your other gadgets are connected to the internet, your fire alarm can be too with our new fire alarm notification app. We teamed up with Nimbus to create a system where you can check your fire alarm status from anywhere using your phone.

What is Nimbus Notify App

Nimbus Notify serves as a cloud-based management system for fire alarms, superseding traditional logbooks while streamlining everyday tasks. Its core function lies in logging fire alarm system activities to ensure compliance and facilitate auditing, complemented by seamless integration and accessibility across desktop and mobile platforms.

Operated through an iPhone/Android app, Nimbus Notify delivers real-time event notifications directly to users. Subscribers can conveniently manage their notification preferences via the Nimbus web portal.

How Do Nimbus Notify Works?

Simply put an addressable fire alarm control panel operates with its own built-in ‘computer’. Consequently, most addressable fire alarm control panels are equipped to transmit data through various ports and protocols, like RS232.

We establish a connection from these ports to the Nimbus Gateway, located beside your fire alarm panel. Depending on the panel model, additional interface or BMS cards may be necessary between the panel and Nimbus to ensure accurate data transmission. Nimbus then translates this data into a user-friendly format, mirroring what appears on your fire alarm screen.

The data is then forwarded to Nimbus cloud servers, which disseminate it through phone or email notifications. Equipped with a SIM card, the Nimbus Gateway transmits data over the mobile network. Moreover, we can integrate Nimbus with your site LAN internet connection, particularly in areas with weak mobile signal strength.

Nimbus Fire Alarm Weekly Test

Fire alarm weekly testing can be carried out and recorded in Nimbus – cutting out the paper-based logbook and ensuring you have the records to provide to your insurer if ever requested.

Also – Annual maintenance of the fire alarm can be monitored in Nimbus, ensuring all devices on your system are properly serviced every year, and nothing is missed out.

How Easy Is It to Retrofit Nimbus to My Fire Alarm System?

Nimbus is generally a quick and simple upgrade for your fire alarm system.

Our Nimbus Gateway will be housed in a dedicated PSU (Power Supply Unit) with battery backup. This will need a 230v power supply, although if we’re locating the Gateway beside your fire alarm panel, we may be able to use the supply that’s already there.

If we’re just running Nimbus on cellular data via the built-in SIM card then we’ll not need any other connections from you.

If we’re installing a backup LAN internet connection from your site networks, then we’ll need a RJ45 network socket beside the Nimbus Gateway.  You’ll also have to open some specific ports on your router (we’ll provide you with the details to pass to your technical team) in order to allow data to flow out.

Once the Gateway is installed, wired into your fire alarm panel and connected to the internet, we’ll take a fire alarm panel download and put that onto your Nimbus Cloud Portal – this will link the data from the panel with the data on the cloud.

After that, your Blazequel account manager will assist you with setting up your Nimbus users, alerts and notifications – You’re good to go!

Conventional Panels can be linked to our Nimbus remote fire alarm notification system, but the information you can get from a conventional system is very limited – so it may not achieve your desired outcome.

Most panels by the above manufacturers will work with our Nimbus system.  However, if you’re not sure whether your panel will be compatible, then just email us a photo of your panel and we can check it out for you!
